The Grove

1–2 minutes

The Grove (or the Stilley-Young House) is a blend of French Creole and Greek Revival architecture built in 1861. Located in Jefferson, Texas, right behind the Gone With the Wind Museum, the Grove has been called “one of the top twelve most haunted houses in America” (This Old House), and one of the “eight scariest places in Texas” (Texas Monthly).

A woman in white is said to walk through the walls inside the home, passing through the area where a doorway used to give access to the porch, but which is now covered over. In the garden in back, a man in a suit is said to appear, hurrying along as if late for a meeting. And in the parlor of the house, a frisky spirit is said to be particularly fond of the ladies.

On Ghost Hunt TV (S6:E5 The Grove, Pt 1), Jimmy Black (Erik Halbert) gave this introduction to the Grove:

If you want to find out more about The Grove, the current owner, Mitchell Whitington, has written a couple of books about the property, and some other authors have touched on the house and the area as well. Find those books here. And check out The Grove’s website!
